Has anyone replaced the packing on their sterngland if so how did they go about it. Does it require removing the engine as it seems impossible to do this without taking the engine out. Any advice would be welcome although it is not a problem at the moment. Bill

Bill… it will depend what stern gland arrangement you have. Virtually all MG30s have had their engine replaced and probably the stern gland too, so there is no standard installation, I think. On Santana I had it replaced when the engine was out with one that could be greased by turning down a greaser – but your arrangement may be different.
Best if luck, Tony
I still have the original engine which is a yanmar yse 12 .The previous owner had an extensive refit in 1999 it was probably done then but it has got a screw down greaser and so far it seems ok. The engine is linked to a hydraulic drive system I wonder if anyone else has this. Bill Wicking
