Sail Plan

hi hows tricks hope you are all well, I wonder if anyone has a copy of the sail plan of the MG 30 as I would like to check on the size of my main. I am thinking of moving the mainsheet traveler to just behind the cockpit step and would then be shortening the boom and i don’t want to this without knowing that the main is the right size.

Thanks. Kieron

Kieron… you could try Adrian Pogson in this group as Dephinus has oversized sails. He might know what the official size should be.
Santana’s sails are standard as far as I know and I now have them here at home for checking over and washing next week, so if you want anything measured, let me know fairly promptly.
What’s your thinking behind the chnages you are proposing?

Hi Tony I have a thirty two foot mast and as far as I know the options were 36 or 32. What i want to know is the length of the foot on an M.G with a 32 foot mast. All the boats I’ve seen with the thirty six foot mast have a
main the full length of the boom but mine with the 32 foot has a main about three foot short of the end, now because of this the main sheet is not really giving the main any proper shape so my intention if the main is correct is to move the mainsheet traveller to just behind the cockpit step as on the contessa 32, thus making it easier to conrol and get a flatter main so its important that i find the correct size so as not to make a total pigs ear of it .
    Thanks for response, Kieron

Kieron… Today I packed away Satntana’s sails after washing and drying, and measured the main, un-stretched.
The luff is 27′ 5″, so I guess the mast is ca. 30′. The foot is 10′ 9″, so the boom must be about 12′ .
The sails, by the way, are from Kemps of Wareham.
