1964-2014 Morgan Giles 30 50 years on

Hi, not sure if people are still looking at this site but I am considering doing something to recognise that it will be 50 years since the inception of the Morgan Giles 30 or at least that is how I read the history? I am thinking of sailing around the UK in my boat Prima Donna and perhaps plan to meet up with as many other Morgan Giles 30 boats as I can on the journey? Just thought I would share this idea with you. I would be interested to hear from all you owners out there?
Bye for now,

    Hello Peter,

Thanks for your e-mail. Graham is sailing the MG in Scotland at the moment. They have had some terrific sailing and decent weather. He has been away for four weeks and is due back next weekend. He will contact you himself upon his return.

    Regards, Judith Kirkpatrick.

I have not followed the site recently which Tony set up, but has anyone taken it on?
I think your suggestion is quite perfect.
My own MG30 has been out of the water for the last two years as I have been doing
a great deal of work to her, nearly finished looking at re launching early 2012.
I am involved in putting together an event for 2012 based on the Three Peaks Challenge
to be called the Bristol Channel Challenge with three shore based stages as well as
yachts having to deal with our “exciting” tide challenges etc in the Bristol Channel!
The event over three days to take in North Devon, The Gower and finish on Lundy
during the longest day – 21st June.
Perhaps other MG30 crews may like to join in as part of a cruise? It should be going
public and in the sailing press at the end of the year.

    Regards to all owners,
    Paul Chapman.

Thanks for your message, send me a picture of your Morgan Giles 30 when you get the chance. I actually bought Prima Donna from Newport Usk Mouth round to Falmouth then subsequently Southampton where she is now. So I have a little experience on the Bristol Channel and the huge tidal range!

I would be quite interested in getting the contact site going and establishing a real association for owners of these wonderful boats. See a pic below in Cowes before the round the island 2010

      Keep in touch

      Regards

    Hi All
We own Pearl Seeker our 1986 MG30. We have completed a transatlantic crossing in her. She certainly looked after us. The crossing was completed in 18 days.

I will send a photo shortly.

We intend to launch pearl seeker again in the near future. Work commitments mean she is ashore for the time being.

During the winter months we sail out in the caribbean in a slightly bigger boat we are preparing to go around the world in.

    Happy Sailing

Hi, nice to hear from you, the transatlantic crossing sounds awesome, all I plan to do is go round the uk! Where are you based? 1986 sounds like a late model. I don’t know when the last hull was laid up? Best of luck with the round the world trip.

Hi Peter, thanks for your message. I bought mine about six months ago, she was called Buccaneer Cartoon by the previous owners but I am not sure what her original name was. She is being refitted in Pembroke at the moment and will be ready in spring 2012. I have never sailed one, but listening to the other owners, it sounds like I am in for a treat.

    I will keep in touch.

    Kind Regards

Hi Ian, thanks for your message, good to hear about your purchase, yes I am sure you will enjoy sailing her. I will look forward to hearing about your launch next spring. In the meantime do please keep in contact. In the meantime I attach a pic from last years round the island race making way down the solent. It was a great day out. This year we retired due to a crew injury, not serious but it was pretty full on and one of the guys banged his elbow and was a bit limited so I decided caution would win the day, Prima Donna however was in her element and would have gone on and on!!

Peter… I was very pleased to read of your idea and see the
enthusiastic response to it. I was away sailing on my new boat
Antipole, and only now am I in a position to respond.
Santana is now sold and we waved the new owners off down river on
Sunday. No doubt they will join this group once they make land:-)

I now want to hand over this site, and will post separately on that.

    regards, Tony

    Hi Peter.

We are new owners of Petronella and are based south of Mallaig on the
    North west coast.
We would be happy to join you on your Scottish leg perhaps meeting you
in the deep south around Islay if you go clockwise and cruise north
with you. Some of the best cruising in the British Isles awaits you.
I would be interested if there are any other Mg owners up here or are
    we the farthest north.
Also wonder if there is a gallery of photos of other Mg yachts. I
would be interested to see how others have there boats set up and the
arrangements below to see if Petronella can be improved.

    Cheers Ali
