Tony introduces Santana

I had long wanted a yacht, having chartered boats in my younger years and more recently sailed a Mirror dinghy especially in Poole Harbour.  I purchased Santana in 2001.

I had to have a new rudder and standing rigging, and the stern gear was replaced at that time.  Otherwise she is reasonably up together, although there is lots I would like to do if I felt able to invest the funds.  I have her based in Poole Harbour.  I have had a tremendous amount of enjoyment from owning her.  I am fortunate that Poole Harbour is large enough to enjoy several days without even going outside.  But I do weekend trips to the Solent or Weymouth (according to tide) and in my summer breaks have cruised the West Country (furthest so far the River Yealm) and cruised to the Channel Islands twice (namely Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey & Sark) and the French coast.

Hello from Azora. Many thanks to Tony for setting up the web site. Its nice to know there are some other MG30s out there – despite all of my looking I couldn’t find any others, and trawling the internet rarely if ever got a match. I purchased Azora 5 years ago and have been paying out ever since. The sign of an old boat. I wanted something that would look after me in a blow and she certainly does that. None of the banging and slamming that comes with the modern flat bottomed boats. She also has the looks and performance of a traditional boat as
compared to some of the big white caravan type boats on sale now. The ease in which she cuts through the waves provides a good steady ride. That’s the good bit over and done with – we won’t mention going in reverse and close encounter manoeuvres other than to say I have lots of fenders and ropes to turn her round. I’m based in the Solent and it would be nice to arrange a meet before the season has gone. – any takers?
